Lasers in Dentistry: A Two-Day Standard Proficiency Course

Take part in a two-day certification program offered by the Academy of Laser Dentistry (ALD) to gain understanding of dental laser devices, laser-tissue interactions and safe operation of a variety of lasers through both lectures and hands-on learning experiences. In addition to certification, earn 12 core C.E. credits (plus 3 credits more by taking an online test).

Get up to date on laser tech:

  • The different types of lasers for dentistry
  • Contact and noncontact laser delivery systems
  • Soft tissue laser procedures and current wavelengths
  • Hard tissue procedures (cavity prep and bone removal) and wavelengths
  • Laser-tissue interaction, effects and results
  • Treatment objectives and sequencing
  • Patient management and healing assessment

This Standard Proficiency course is presented according to the Curriculum Guidelines and Standards for Dental Laser Education as recognized by the ALD. You must be present for the full course to receive C.E. credits and letters of recognition.

Instructors
A leading expert in laser dentistry, Peter K. Pang, DDS, is an international speaker with manuscripts in several peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Pang uses multiple wavelengths in his general practice in Sonoma, Calif. Co-host Mitchell A. Lomke, DDS, has been in private practice as a general dentist in Montgomery, Md., for more than 35 years and has special interest in dental laser procedures. And, co-host Angie Mott, RDH, has been a clinical hygienist for more than 25 years and is a member of the Academy of Laser Dentistry.

Supplies
Be sure to bring your own magnification loupes (with laser filters, if available). Equipment and supplies, including a variety of dental lasers, will be provided courtesy of ALD's Corporate Member Laser Manufacturers. You may also bring your own portable lasers.

Certification
This course will include a clinical simulation exam and 75-question multiple-choice online test. Exam instructions will be provided during the course, and the online test must be completed by August 12, 2016. Successfully complete the simulation exam and online test, and you'll be recognized as having fulfilled the certification requirements for a dental laser Standard Proficiency course. Standard Proficiency certification is recognized nationally by the AGD and ADA, as well as internationally among respected professional and regulatory organizations. You will receive a letter from the Academy of Laser Dentistry indicating your C.E. credits for the exam. ALD members will also receive a Certificate of Successful Completion noting the specific course participation and clinical simulation wavelength.

Prerequisites
Fulfill required prerequisites for the Lasers in Dentistry workshop one of two ways:

  1. Complete an introduction to lasers course with a minimum of 2.5 C.E. credit hours, and have a basic understanding of the use of lasers in dentistry; OR
  2. Register for and attend the lecture titled An Introduction to Lasers on Thursday, May 12, at CDA Presents in Anaheim.

Fees
Course fees ($795/$875) include the Academy of Laser Dentistry online exam fee.
